Visiting Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

Visiting Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is easy. The Lab Visitors Center, coordinated by the Lab's Public Affairs Office, is located at the East Gate on Greenville Road just three miles south from Interstate 580 in Livermore, California, USA. It is in an open area of the Lab so no badges are needed and parking is available. All services of the Visitors Center are free of charge. The center provides an overview of LLNL's history, current research programs and a glimpse of their applications. The center's relaxed, self-guided format encourages visitors to examine the displays and videos at their own pace.

The Lab Visitors Center is open M-T-Th-F 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. and on Wednesdays 1 - 4 p.m. It is closed on weekends and Laboratory holidays.

Visitors Center staff provide the following:
Tour Programs - The Visitors Center offers a Community Tour of areas of the Laboratory on most Mondays at 1 pm for individuals 18 years of age or older. Pre registration is required, usually two weeks in advance. Non-US citizens need to register at least a month in advance. The Community Tour visits the world's largest laser, Nova, the National Energy Research Supercomputer Center, and may visit the Biology and Biotechnology Research Program and the Center for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry. The tour takes two hours. Call (510) 423-0545 for information.

In addition there is an Environmental Site Tour on the third Thursday of the month. This tour visits several of the water treatment facilities, the sewer monitoring and diversion facility and the waste management yard, as well as one or more of the big technology centers such as the Nova laser or the Center for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry. This tour takes three hours and requires advanced registration of at least two weeks.

Arrangements can also be made for group tours (school classes or special interest groups) at other times and days.

The Environmental Information Repository is a collection of documents of environmental reviews and compliance reports at Lawrence Livermore and Site 300. The repository is open during regular Visitor Center hours.

Community Outreach at Lawrence Livermore includes working with community organizations, governmental agencies and individuals as a good neighbor. The Lab offers employees an opportunity to volunteer in programs established by non-profit and governmental organizations.

The Speakers Bureau schedules Laboratory personnel to speak to community organizations and professional groups about their work here.
