The College of Engineering at Cornell offers the advantage of a first-rate engineering school within a world-class university. Ezra Cornell wanted to "found an institution where any person can find instruction in any study," and this ambitious goal has guided the growth of Cornell University for more than a century and a quarter. Engineering at Cornell emphasizes this diverse intellectual climate.
The university consists of thirteen schools and colleges with a total enrollment (in 1994) of 19,271, a faculty of 2,466, 210,224 living alumni, and an endowment of $1,279.4 million.
Engineering courses have been taught at Cornell ever since the university opened its doors in 1868. The college in its present form--which embraces all branches of engineering--was established in 1921.
