Tennis Rankings

[WARNING] Over the next few months I will try to keep the rankings up to date. However if there is a time delay between the posting of the rankings and their subsequent appearance on this page, please bear with me. Thanks.
These rankings are obtained from rec.sport.tennis and thanks goes out to Mike Horgan and Jacqueline Dupree for compiling the list.

(Rankings as of April 10, 1995)
  Even the advance knowledge that today was going to be the big day at the
Top of the ATP computer doesn't lessen the startling impact of seeing
the "1" next to Andre Agassi's name. Of course, we all know this momentous
occasion was brought about mainly thanks to the stagger the ATP tour

schedule is operating under this year: should Andre do poorly in Tokyo
this week, while Pete performs well in Barcelona, this changing of the
guard could be no more than a one-week blip.
  (Editorial comment: But I kinda doubt it 8-).)
  It's Week #2 of the ATP Top 300, and like I warned you, the list looks
a little different. However, it's not different in the way I described it
would be. Because We Aim To Please here at the ATP Top 300, I listened to
the feedback I received and decided to dispense with the "Rank Last Week"

column, and retain the "Rank Diff." column, since apparently quite a few
folks use the "Rank Diff." column to get a quick fix on who's done what.
Fair enough. (I'm a points gal, myself, but it takes all kinds, doesn't
it? 8-) )
  Enough housekeeping. Looking at the list itself, we can crown Alberto Costa
Mover of the Week, with his finalist finish in Estoril garnering him
189 points and moving him to #42. His conqueror, Thomas Muster, snagged 155.
And Martin Sinner gained 157 points, and just BARELY a check (should have

asked for cash!) for winning the monetarily challenged South Africa Open
in Johannesburg. Some fun notes from farther down the list, as Neville Godwin
jumps 67 places by gaining 43 points, and Alex Radulescu climbs 35 places.
And, ho hum, Andre is still Mover of the Year.
  Most of the losing last week was thanks to inactivity--Sampras, Krajicek,
and Chang all didn't bother to try to defend their 1994 points from Tokyo
or Barcelona, so down they go. Carlos Costa's third-set-tiebreak loss to

Bryan Shelton in Estoril helped him plummet to 62nd place, a 17-spot drop.
And how about that Brad Gilbert, who I'm told was once a player before being
Andre Agassi's coach--he falls 409 spots, and out of the Top 200. As for the
Loser of the Year trophy, it's currently no contest--Mr. Sampras, I'm afraid,
wins the booby prize.
