Energy Directorate

Mission

To address scientific and technology issues in the energy arena having pressing national importance. To work with U.S. industry to facilitate the rapid commercialization of Energy Program technologies.


The LLNL Energy Programs comprise four focus areas.

Magnetic Fusion Energy

Mission: To play a leading role in the international development of a fusion reactor that is attractive by the criteria of economics, safety, and environment.

Energy, Manufacturing, and Transportation Technologies

Mission: To synergistically combine LLNL's resources and capabilities to solve national problems in energy, manufacturing, and transportation that are beyond the scope of industry alone.

Fission Energy and Systems Safety

Mission: To bring the diverse technical capabilities of the Laboratory to the support of U.S. Government agencies addressing national and international technical issues, in all areas of fission energy and systems safety.

Energy Analysis, Policy, and Planning

Mission: To impact U.S. and global energy strategies and policies, to identify and plan new LLNL energy project areas and projects, to provide LLNL programs with analyses and projections of U.S. and global energy technologies and infrastructures.
