BOSTON UNIVERSITY - independent, coeducational, and nonsectarian - is an internationally recognized institution of higher education and research. It is the third-largest independent institution of higher education in the United States. Through its fifteen Schools and Colleges, thirteen of which offer advanced degrees, the University serves the academic and research needs of approximately 29,000 students and 2,600 faculty. The student body represents all fifty states and more than 125 foreign countries. Full-time undergraduate students are divided evenly between male and female students.
Located along the banks of the Charles River in the Back Bay section of Boston, the 105 acre campus includes a wide variety of residences and apartment buildings ranging in style from small Victorian townhouses to modern high-rise complexes. University facilities include sixteen libraries; an 855 seat theatre with Proscenium stage; the B.U. Bookstore Mall, New England's largest bookstore; a student center with food court, meeting rooms, games area, post office, ballroom, and bank; and numerous indoor and outdoor recreation areas.
