Job listings

Jobs posted to YSN are available here and by anonymous ftp at ftp://snorri.chem.washington.edu/ysn/joblist.

A directory of job resources is also maintained here - the most useful thing appears to be the "Online Career Center" - check it out when it's not too busy. You might also want to examine this guide to job hunting on the internet.

The web address http://ibd.ar.com/Resume is apparently a free resume registration service - please let everybody know if you find it useful.

Also, here's a pointer to an amusing career guide for engineers and CS-types, from Philip Greenspun (philg@mit.edu).

Grant information

The YSN grant list is archived here . If you have other information please let us know - send to Mary Ellen Scott (mes@atlas.chemistry.uakron.edu).

Alternative careers

A collection of stories about scientists who have created new careers for themselves other than academic research in their Ph.D. field.

Articles about or of interest to YSN

A bibliography of published articles (including full text of some articles) about the YSN or about employment problems for young scientists. There are also reviews or interesting books, a report on a survey of soft money astronomers, and some science policy speeches and commentary . A recent proposal for community-based research is also available here.

Also, here is a collection of useful links concerning the mathematics job market.

Political items

We have a collection of files in the ftp archive with Phone numbers and addresses of various political figures, and some recommendations on how to send letters to them. Don't forget to check the speeches and policy statements made by various of these people.

The Library of Congress maintains links to House of Representatives gopher servers, on-line congressional directories, and lots of other information. There is also a Senate gopher.
