Welcome to the St. Joseph County Public Library's WWW Server!

We came on line for the first time on March 14, 1994 and our WWW pages are still under construction (See SJCPL's Computer Usage Policy and Disclaimer). We owe special thanks to Mike Miller of University of Notre Dame who got us started!

SJCPL's Databases

To access our Library's own databases, select from the following:

• SJCPL's On-Line Catalog - telnet access to the Library's on-line catalog, DIAL-A-CAT, with over 500,000 records. Includes the holdings of three area public libraries: SJCPL, Mishawaka-Penn Public Library, and the Plymouth Public Library (Plymouth, Indiana).
• Community Connection - info on over 1,200 community organizations & services.
• South Bend Tribune Index - index to Metro section, with abstracts, since 1990. To send electronic mail directly to the South Bend Tribune, its e-mail address is: SBTNews@aol.com.
• Monthly Events Calendar - future children and adult programs sponsored by SJCPL. See details and pictures of our special annual event, Science Alive!
• 1995 Indiana State Legislators - detailed information, including a photo, of each Indiana State Senator and Representative.
• SJCPL's Magazine Subject Guide is now searchable by subject and/or title. Select the subject from our subject guide and enter SJCPL's search form to get a listing of the magazine titles SJCPL has on that subject.
• SJCPL's InfoFile - a searchable database that contains answers to unusual and interesting questions that have been collected over many years at the library's reference desks.
• SJCPL's Hotlist of over 100 interesting and useful Internet sites that we have discovered over the past year.

SJCPL's Internet Connection for Public Library Users!

...the first in Indiana!

Although we have been providing Internet access to the public since early summer 1994, the St. Joseph County Public Library is happy to announce Internet access at our Main Library and at each of our seven branch libraries!

We are Indiana's first public library to provide such access. See our Internet Access page for more details.

Michiana Free-Net

...the first in Indiana!

Although not all of its links are presently active on its new menu of services, Michiana Free-Net is now up and running (as of August 26, 1994) with its own WWW server!

This is Indiana's first Free-Net, serving the greater South Bend, Elkhart (Indiana) and lower Michigan areas. For more information, see Frequently Asked Questions about Michiana Free-Net. Or, you can go directly to Michiana Free-Net's Main Menu for a subject listing of present and future services. To see examples of other Free-Net locations, with Free-Net mailing lists, documents, conferences, etc., check out the Freenets Homepage that is being maintained as a public service by Peter Scott at the University of Saskatchewan Libraries.

South Bend Area High Schools with their own homepages

In cooperation with the St. Joseph County Public Library, the following local high schools are creating their own homepages on our file server:

• Riley High School, a high school of the South Bend Community School Corporation, now has its own homepage on the Internet, thanks to John Wibbens, biology teacher, and Jack Ross, Riley High alumnus!
• St. Joseph High School, a local parochial high school will soon be on the net. Stand by for further developments!
