World Cup USA '94

Latest Results

The soccer World Championship (World Cup) is a quadrennial event which has been held since 1930 (there were no 1942 or 1946 championships). It is arguably the biggest sporting event on Earth. The next World Cup will be held in the USA in June/July 1994, with matches in 9 different cities.

Over 100 national teams from 5 zones competed in a qualifying round to determine which teams will make it to the World Cup final rounds (the host USA, and current champions Germany qualified automatically). The qualifying round ended in November '93, with 24 teams, divided into 6 groups, earning the right to compete in the World Cup final round. A semi-random draw was held in December '93 to determine the schedule. In the mean time, the qualifiers will take part in some international friendly matches in which their star players will get a chance to warm up for the event.
