Welcome to the UMDS ISD Web Server
The current editor of this page is Pete Tedder.
UMDS
The United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy's and St Thomas's
Hospitals is an independent single-faculty school of Medicine
and Dentistry within the University of London, and it also has strong
links with the NHS, especially the Guy's and St Thomas's Hospitals NHS
Trust.
The two main campuses of UMDS are in central London, one in Waterloo
facing the Houses of Parliament, the other in Southwark by London
Bridge.
UMDS was formed by the merger, in 1982, of the Guy's and St Thomas's
Medical Schools. It was joined in 1983 by the Royal Dental Hospital of
London School of Dental Surgery and, in 1985, by the Institute of
Dermatology.

Look up UMDS e-mail addresses
Try out our ph server (also
known as the CSO Nameserver). Give it a name (with a wildcard '*' if
required) and it'll seek that person's record. It's still on trial but
works well enough to encourage us to pour more data (inc phone numbers
and department names) into each record.
UMDS Anonymous FTP Highlights
Here is a link to some interesting, even new, items on our anonymous FTP server which you can
get directly via your Web browser. But remember that if you are not in
the UK it might take forever transferring these things and that they
should also be available nearer home.
Included are anti-virus software, Web browsers, Trumpet network
utilities and other thrilling items.
Latest arrival 1 - F-Prot v2.17 for DOS (8apr95)
Latest arrival 2 - Mosaic v2.0b4 for Windows (7apr95)
Can you keep up with these wretched beta releases ?
Latest arrival 3 - Netscape 1.1b3 for Windows and Mac
(2apr95)
Latest arrival 4 - Disinfectant v3.6 for Mac (10apr95)

Here are links to some other Web fans on campus.
Other Information Sources
Information currently available on the UMDS server, within the UK and
beyond the UK includes:
- The Journal of Medical Imaging
from Johns Hopkins University. This copy is held here, and should be
fast (if you're calling from a UK site...).
- Other UK based Information
Sources including some key educational sites.
- Non-UK based Information
Sources including some key medical sites.
- International Myeloma Foundation
We have been asked by this organisation to include a link to their new
World Wide Web Site for Myeloma Patients. Multiple Myeloma is a
currently incurable bone marrow cancer. The material was prepared by
the International Myeloma
Foundation and is housed at Comed Communications.
Have a look and let us have any opinions. In due course, we will move
it into the Non-UK based Information Sources page.
- Alphabetic list of College and University Home Pages compiled and
maintained by Christina DeMello of MIT. Sorry - this no longer
seems to work... She has split the single file up into 26
individual files which will be a little too unwieldy for us to
download. Pity. But here is a link to the MIT
original.
- Search the Web
Here is a link to a set of ways to
search the Web maintained by the University of Geneva, but mirrored
here.

Other UMDS information sections
Just getting off the ground...
- Buy and Sell is where
departments and individuals can offer stuff for sale or tell the rest
of us what they want.
- UMDS internal vacancies
(including those PhD studentships that a little bird told us about).
