Colleges and professional schools include the College of Engineering, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, the School of Education, and the Graduate School of Management. Graduate programs are coordinated through the Graduate Division. UC credit courses are also offered through a six-week Summer Session, and credit and noncredit courses are available through University Extension.
UCR is a comprehensive research university of approximately 8,500 students and teaching and research faculty of 830. The campus confers the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts, Master of Science, Master of Business Administration and the Doctor of Philosophy degrees.
The origins of the campus date back to 1907 when, by act of the legislature, the Citrus Experiment Station was established in Riverside to conduct research on the agricultural problems of Southern California. In 1954, the College of Letters and Science opened for classes. In 1959, UCR became a general campus with graduate and professional studies, as well as the liberal arts.
