- SSA recognized that our business approach had to dramatically change in order for us to serve our customers effectively with constrained resources. - On Monday, April 3, 1995, the Social Security Board of Trustees issued its annual report on the financial status of the Social Security trust funds. Here is a copy of our national press release.
- Effective March 31, SSA became an independent agency. SSA began a long association with what is now the Department of Health and Human Services in 1953. In a ceremony in Baltimore, Commissioner Shirley S. Chater marked the agency's return to independent status and introduced the new SSA logo, above.
