- SSA recognized that our business approach had to dramatically change in order for us to serve our customers effectively with constrained resources. The direction that SSA has taken is outlined in our General Business Plan which was submitted with our budget request. - On Monday, April 3, 1995, the Social Security Board of Trustees issued its annual report on the financial status of the Social Security trust funds. Here is a copy of our national press release.
- Effective March 31, SSA became an independent agency. SSA began a long association with what is now the Department of Health and Human Services in 1953. In a ceremony in Baltimore, Commissioner Shirley S. Chater marked the agency's return to independent status and introduced the new SSA logo, above.
