This is a list of recommended restaurants in the Boston area with a focus primarily on flavor, quality & value, though the list reports on things like service & ambience as well. The emphasis is on moderately-priced restaurants which serve interesting food. At the same time, I've included the really fancy expensive restaurants that are reportedly good as well.

Restaurants are only included in the recommended list when I receive at least two more positive reviews than negative reviews of the restaurant.

Thanks to the Open Software Foundation for providing this web server, however, the Boston Restaurant List is not an official activity of the OSF.

If you have questions about this list, contact the maintainer,

Want to know about new restaurants that have just been added to the list, reviews that have just been updated, or restaurants that have recently closed? Also look here for the recent contributors who help keep the information current.

Help keep the restaurant list up-to-date by sending in your own reviews of new restaurants, or by updating reviews of restaurants already in the list:

A list of restaurants I'd especially like to get reviews of are in:

If you want to download the entire restaurant list (as of 2 Jan 1995), at once, it is available, but very big!

The reviews in the restaurant list are distilled from reviews sent to me as well as those posted on ne.food and rec.food.restaurants. Some of the original reviews, while too large to be included in the list, are quite interesting reading:

It may take me a while to process reviews. If you're interested, you can see recently arrived reviews that haven't been processed yet.

A revised version of the paper (in HTML) I presented at the WWW Conference

Review-Based Information Services:
Lessons learned from the Boston Restaurant List
is now available, as is the original paper (in Postscript).

Postscript slides of that talk are available, as well as slides from a longer talk I've given elsewhere.

If you really don't have anything better to do, then you can also view the history of changes made to the list, as well as reviews of restaurants which are now closed.
