Fellow Adventurers,
The information contained in these Web pages outlines some of our upcoming adventure trips. These unique trips are designed to be genuine explorations for travellers (not "tourists"!) who are looking for the advantages of a well organized adventure holiday, yet also desire some individual freedom to do things on their own. Our groups are small and friendly and are made up of a variety of interesting and adventurous individuals from all walks of life. A typical group has about 8 to 12 people, most between the ages of 25 and 50 with approximately equal numbers of men and women.
Our style of adventure travelling is an active, participatory type of experience with hiking, rafting, climbing, or some other kind of physical activity on many of the days. You do not have to be a marathon runner or a mountaineer to participate - you simply have to be the kind of person who enjoys walking, the outdoors, and the opportunity of cross-cultural contact in exotic lands. You never have to carry heavy loads on your back, as we have a full staff of porters, cooks, and guides to take care of the more mundane tasks involved with camping and help you make the most of your trip.
We have designed our trips to include a variety of activities and excursions, with enough time in most places to avoid the "If it's Tuesday, this must be Belgium" syndrome! Although our specialty is trekking in the Himalayas, we also offer some exciting trips to Africa, Thailand, and South East Asia.
To guarantee a space you should reserve early. We will then send you detailed trip notes, and further information concerning what to bring, visa requirements, vaccination and medical recommendations, etc. If you would like to receive more detailed information on a specific expedition before you sign up, you can always request a "Trip Kit" which contains daily itineraries, maps, and a suggested reading list.
All of us at Canadian Himalayan Expeditions look forward to helping you plan and enjoy a great adventure!
Sincerely,
Joe Pilaar, Director
