The Web Developer's
Virtual Library: The CERN/WWW Virtual Library webspace on WWW Development includes sections ranging from making WWW pages, to setting up servers, to the evolution of the Web. You can search a database of nearly 1000 annotated URLs. See some reviews.

Harvest Query:
A Perl script search facility is also available.
A number of browsers fail to support the BASE tag; this will cause problems viewing the following slide-show tutorials. You may use the hyperlinks only version instead. Netscape 1.1b recommended.
Advanced HTML: Head, Body, Forms and Tables.
An advanced survey of HTML, especially the forms and (new) tables features, which interact with CGI (the Common Gateway Interface).

Introduction to the HyperText Transfer Protocol:
A brief overview of HTTP, to help you understand how HTML forms communicate with CGI.

Interfacing Computer-Based Resources to the WWW:
The CGI is the connection between HTML forms and the software you want to use behind them, e.g. database queries. How to do input and output to/from CGI programs, with some examples.

Web Searchable Databases.
How to make use of HTML forms, processed by CGI scripts and programs, to connect these forms to databases ranging from very simple tabular searches through to more complex relational databases.

Authoring Style:
This presentation explores the basics of engineering Web pages that are attractive and effective, yet are easy to maintain and use. Special emphasis is placed on how to help the user make the most of your information. Numerous aspects of authoring are addressed, including: Structure, Headings, and Page Layout; Navigation, Readability, and Hyperlinks; Graphics and Color; Maintainable HTML (comments, URLs); Validation & Testing; and Forms Design Issues.

* Web hosting sites wanted.
I'm getting a lot of requests from businesses and organisations wanting web systems development and a host site. If you are able to host web systems (i.e. HTML pages and CGI scripts; possibly also search engines such as Harvest/WAIS) and would be interested in partnership arrangements, please email me at web@stars.com.
* Sponsorship/Funding Invitation.
This very popular site is maintained at personal expense and time (with help from Charm Net). It provides a valuable service to the web community but it's becoming increasingly difficult for me to handle the load on my own time. Also, I have a number of related projects on the drawing board or in development that are attracting web developer interest. If your organisation could help support these activities, then please contact me at sponsor@stars.com
