The software developer's partner in success.

An exciting new resource is available for Silicon Valley software developers. The Center for Software Development is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to promote the growth of software companies. The Software Entrepreneurs Forum, the City of San Jose, and Novell, Inc. founded The Center. It acts as a catalyst between the key facets of the software industry ...software developers, hardware and software vendors, and service providers. The Center provides self-service test labs, events, and an Industry Resource Library.

Self-service Porting and Testing Labs

Developers from large and small companies use the Centers labs. These are multi-vendor labs such as the Network Software Lab, PC Lab, Macintosh Lab, UNIX Lab, and an International Lab. Choices are abundant. The Networking Lab, for example, allows testing on Novell NetWare, Banyan Vines, Microsoft Windows for Workgroups and NT Advanced Server.

The UNIX lab features systems from Digital, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Silicon Graphics, Sun Microsystems. UNIXWare and SCO UNIX are available on Intel based systems. Hardware options such as sound and video boards, printers and a CD-ROM recorder are available. Other labs are in the works including an EDAC Interoperability Lab, and a Mobile Computing Lab featuring wireless communication.

The Centers labs are set up in two models. One is walk-in -- developers rent pre-configured machines by the hour. The other is a set of secure rooms set up on a custom basis. Software and hardware arrive daily, so call for details.

Events

The Center features business oriented and technically oriented topics in either seminar format or one-on-one meetings. Business oriented events act as a catalyst between software developers and providers of services needed to grow a business, such as marketing, venture capital, legal and accounting firms. One-on-one events include half-hour sessions with a Venture Capitalist whose focus is on software. Technical events feature experts in such areas as Microsoft OLE, the Internet, mobile computing and wireless communication. Events vary and are detailed in our monthly newsletter, READ.ME.

The Software Industry Resource Library

The Resource Library includes business-oriented books, brochures and reference information from local service firms, as well as an extensive collection of technical materials and periodicals.
