Selected ATP Tour 1994 Statistics

1994 Complete Player Results, Version A

New! So big it can only be downloaded in compressed format (79K, will expand to [gasp]830K) and must be printed out in small type (about 8 points) on thin-margin pages. Why? It shows, for all players, the tournaments they played, the dates, their seeding (if any), the result, and the matches they played, for every match on the ATP tour in 1994. (Available via anonymous ftp at ftp.digex.net/pub/access/jd/94match.zip.) For those of you whose browsers can handle viewing text more than 120 columns wide, here's a preview to give you a taste of this Mother of All Men's Statistics Files.

1994 Complete Player Results, Version B

This is not quite as a big file (about 250K), but it can be viewed online, at least. It's the same as the above file, but without the round-by-round results. A compressed file (a mere 20K) can be retrieved via anonymous FTP at ftp.digex.net/pub/access/jd/94compl.zip.

1994 Top 200 And Their Previous Year-End Rankings

This brings together the year-end Top 200 (or so) for the years 1988 through 1994. Look up a player and see how many times in this seven-year span they ended the year in the Top 200. 1994's Top 200 listed first, followed by an alphabetical listing of Top 200 players from the other years.

1994 Complete Player Won-Loss List

If a player won or lost a match in an ATP tour event or a Grand Slam, they're listed here. Sorted alphabetically. Available via anonymous FTP at ftp.digex.net in the pub/access/jd directory (the filename is 94wl.txt).

1994 Player Performance in Finals

A strange stat, but one that may nonetheless be interesting: the winning percentages of any player who made a final in 1994.

1994 Points Plus/Minus Listing

This shows the year-end ATP Top 100 ordered in terms of net points gained and lost since January 3, 1994. In other words, it shows a player's improvement. (It's hard to explain, so just take a look!)

1994 Repeat Champions

A short but interesting stat: players who won a tournament in 1993 and then defended their title in 1994.

1994 Total Tournaments Played

Want to know how many times a player appeared at an ATP event? Want to know how many performances of theirs didn't count under the Best 14 rule? Here it is, sorted from most to least.

The 1994 Time to Get a Day Job Awards

It's sort of an ATP Hall of Shame: the list of the players who had a total of 10 or more first-round losses in 1994, sorted in terms of percentage of first-round losses to total ATP Tour Events played.

Selected ATP Tour 1993 Statistics

1993 Complete Player Results, Version A

Just like the 1994 Complete Results, Version A; so big it can only be downloaded in compressed format (87K, will expand to [gasp]943K) and must be printed out in small type (about 8 points) on thin-margin pages. Why? It shows, for all players, the tournaments they played, the dates, their seeding (if any), the result, and the matches they played, for every match on the ATP tour in 1993. (Available via anonymous ftp at ftp.digex.net/pub/access/jd/93match.zip.)

1993 Complete Player Results, Version B

This is not quite as a big file (about 301K), but it can be viewed online, at least. It's the same as the above file, but without the round-by-round results. A compressed file (a mere 23K) can be retrieved via anonymous FTP at ftp.digex.net/access/pub/jd/93compl.zip.

ATP Tour Yearly Champions and Finalists

These can be retrieved via anonymous FTP at ftp.digex.net/pub/access/jd/ oldcham/YYchamps.txt, where YY equals the year you want (i.e., the 1994 year-end ranks file is 94champs.txt). Many, many thanks to Bill Walsh for keying in the information from 1981 to 1991.

ATP Tour Year-End Rankings

These can be retrieved via anonymous FTP at ftp.digex.net/pub/access/jd/oldrank/YYranks.txt, where YY equals the year you want (i.e., the 1994 year-end ranks file is 94ranks.txt). These list the Top 200 (or so) players for the year, and thanks to Mark Cheers for the 1988-1990 data.

(You might also want to check out my list of players who have finished in the Top 200 at least once in the past seven years; see a player's rise and fall [or rise and rise, or fall and fall] throughout the time period!)

1994 | 1993 | 1992 | 1991 | 1990 | 1989 | 1988 |

From 1987 backwards, the files show the Top 10 players at the end of the year, as well as the results of the four Grand Slam finals. Many thanks to Bill Walsh for compiling these listings.

1990 | 1989 | 1988 | 1987 | 1986 | 1985 | 1984 | 1983 | 1982 | 1981 | 1980 | 1979 |

Other Tennis-Related Web Sites

There are a number of other sites on the Web that offer tennis information. The World Wide Web Tennis Server is home to a wide variety of tennis information for both the spectator and the player. The Tennis Server also includes archives of both the ATP Electronic Newsletter and Chris Smith's Tennis News, an archive of daily tournament results for ATP and WTA events (in case you can't bear to wait until Sunday night to get the complete ATP tournament results listed here!). Another good stop is the University of Toronto Tennis Page. There is also available, year-round, a Web page devoted to news and notes about the Ford Australian Open.

The rec.sport.tennis FAQ

The FAQ is maintained by Chris Smith, and contains all sorts of additional information about both the men's and women's tours - these are links to the World Wide Web Tennis Server:
