The CUSI Distribution

This document outlines what is required for you to run CUSI at your own site. You do need a Perl, and probably a UNIX machine. If you find this procedure too difficult let me know, it might motivate me to write a proper install script :-).

All the relevant files have been combined into a tar file, which will expand into a directory 'cusi'. Set your server up to execute the scripts in cgi-bin. Then adapt the <FORM> tags in cusi.html to use those scripts. Also adapt the $map variable insrc/cusi.pl so that it can find susi-map.pl in src/.

If you want to change the cusi.html to include other search engines, stick to the existing formatting, so that bin/cusi2susi can generate src/susi-map.pl, which contains Perl code to deal with browsers that don't support the VALUE attribute (just type make). You don't need to write any Perl.

The URL construction for new search engines is easy; just take the URL that impements the search, and replace the query text with the string _cusi-search-term-here_.
