The CIT STOS WWW Server

Welcome to the STOS WWW server!

This thing is totally experimental. Have a good time with it! Send us some suggestions! And visit every now and then to see what we've added!

What is a STOS?

STOS is actually a rather arcane acronym standing for Student Terminal Operations Supervisor(s). The STOSi, under Jim Manning, Manager of Workstation Labs, are responsible for supervising the on-campus computer facilities operating under Cornell Information Technologies (CIT). Our office is in B6A Upson Hall, Cornell University.

What is CIT?

More can be found about Cornell University by accessing the CUINFO WWW Server.

Who are the STOS?

The STOS currently consist of the following dedicated individuals:
Nayan Hajratwala (STOS, Upson)
Steven Lee (STOS, Uris Library)
Mark Lipsits (STOS, Sibley)
Aravind Narasimhan (STOS, Carpenter & Noyes)
Jennifer Personius (STOS, Martha Van Rensselaer)
Sandeep Tamhankar (STOS, Clara Dickson) *
STOS Hall of Fame
The * denotes the newest additions among our ranks. We welcome them to our staff!

Why do I care?

Chances are, you are located some place halfway across the country or around the world, and to be perfectly honest, you shouldn't care. But that's the beauty of the World Wide Web: it puts terabytes of useless information at your fingertips.

What sort of stuff can I find on this server?

There are all sorts of useless things within the pages on this server. We are diverse people with diverse interests, and basically whatever any of us feels like including in here is what you'll find. So far we have résumés, pictures, and a substantial amount of worthless drivel.

You can also download current schedules of CIT public computing facilities on campus in Microsoft Word format encoded using BinHex4. If your browser does not decode BinHex files automatically, you will need utilities like StuffIt Expander to decode the files first. The schedules are also available via anonymous ftp at stos-www.cit.cornell.edu in the /WWWServer/pub/schedules directory.

Wondering what's available at CIT's public computing facilities? Here are a list of Macintosh equipment and a list of PC compatible equpiment in each lab.

Is there anything else on the WWW at Cornell?

There are several other WWW servers at Cornell that we know of. Feel free to browse through these as well.

How are you doing all this?

If you're that curious, you can request some information about this server, such as what sort of machine it runs on, using what software, etc.
