The Division of Energy and Mineral Resources (BIA-DEMR) provides special services to the Indian mineral owner that are unique within the U.S. Department of Interior. The primary goal of the Division is to provide professional geotechnical, engineering and economic advice to the Indian landowners seeking to manage and develop their mineral resources. Additional functions of the Division include coordination with other agencies, councils, commissions and industry to help tribes in achieving the maximum income and employment return from utilization of their mineral resources.
The Division is developing a National Indian Energy and Mineral Resource Database entitled NIEMR. Non-proprietary data from this database will soon be available on CD-ROM disks. Other agencies, Indian reservations, individuals and private corporations may obtain and utilize these CD's.
The National Indian Seismic Evaluation System entitled NISES, when fully implemented, will enable the Division to collect, analyze, and manage reflection seismic data which has been recorded on Tribal Indian lands.
