In "I Know It When I See It, A Modern Fable About Quality" John Guaspari expressed the management philosophy embraced by the Office of the Registrar and Student Academic Information Systems:
"Your customers are in a perfect position to tell you about quality because that is all they are really buying. They are not buying a product. They are buying your assurances that their expectations for that product will be met. And you haven't really got anything else to sell them but quality."
This is particularly true in service organizations, like the academic support units including the Registrar and SAIS, where no one buys a product, but many depend upon efficient and effective service to meet their needs.
The Registrar's Office and SAIS staff listen to clients across the campus to insure that the activities undertaken by the office met their expectations in a timely, accurate, effective manner. Every project or major change effected in Registrar's office operations or services is a product of cooperative effort of Registar's staff and campus clients. This includes faculty, students, and staff sometimes in large formal groups and sometimes through informal interactions.
