Neuro-Implant Program
The TJU Neuro-Implant Program is a part of the
Division of Functional Neurosurgery at Thomas Jefferson
University. Both are headed by
Giancarlo Barolat, M.D.
Functional Neurosurgery is a branch of Neurosurgery.
Its efforts are geared toward restoring function that
was lost to an injury or disease of the Nervous System.
Dysfunctions that can be helped through Functional
Neurosurgery include:
- Pain
- Paralysis
- Spasticity
- Seizures
- Malfunctioning of bladder due to nerve injury
Conditions that can be helped include:
- Head/Spine Injury
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Cerebral Palsy
- Severe Spine Problems resulting in Permanent Pain
Condition
- Nerve/Spine Injury Problems resulting in a
Permanent Pain Condition
- Pain due to Cancer
Neuroimplantation is the treatment of conditions of the Nervous
System by implanting surgical devices. There are two types of Neuro-Implant
