Using hypertext, readers can explore the complex relations between the land, culture, history and recreational possibilities of the Big Island, through text, maps, photos and audio.
This work is an unprecedented collaborative venture between the UCI Bookstore and Moon Publications. In addition to the just-published Big Island of Hawaii Handbook on which this hypertext exhibit is based, Moon publishes over 45 other travel guides in its award-winning Handbook series, all of which are available through the UCI Bookstore.
For comments on the text itself, you can write to Joe Bisignani at joebiz@moon.com; comments on the hypertext implementation may be sent to Jonathan Cohen at jkcohen@uci.edu.
The text of Big Island of Hawaii is extensive, and makes for good online reading; the exhibit is designed to be read in both text-only and graphical environments. There are a number of inline images, including two large graphical maps, so if you are running a graphical browser such as Mosaic over a SLIP or PPP connection, we suggest that you turn image loading OFF.
