Welcome to the Advanced Communication Technologies Laboratory Web Server located at the Radio-TV-Film Dept. of the College of Communication at the Univ. of Texas at Austin . We currently also run an ACTLab Gopher Server and there are lots of groovy ACTLab people here working on multi-media projects, interface design, and associated philosophical and social questions.

World Wide Web Gateways

The following list include a number of useful Gateways onto the World Wide Web, indeed an unusual number of gateways. We hope that they will be of use to the ACTLab and to the Web community. Clearly these lists are not complete. But then that is the nature of the Web. No one list is complete: they lead to other lists. Some lists, however, are more complete than others.

Search the Web Gateways
The following section includes a number of services that will help you locate material and specific informtion on the World Wide Web. If your interest is topical, also consider looking through the Subject Gateways below.

Business on the Internet Gateways
A collection of homepages devoted to providing services on the Web on the Internet in general, as well as some information as to the implication. Some of these will gateway into hundreds of providers world wide.

Geographical Gateways
A collection of ways to search the Web geographically, including click on maps of the World. Divided into local and global.

Muds, Chat, and Recreation Gateways
The ACTLab has had a long history in organizing material related to MUDs and virtual, interactive environments. These gateways will lead you to interactions with real people, real time. If you are looking for specific pages, such as the DOOM Web page, then dig into the 'recreation' pages. An easy way to lose hours of time as well.

Multi-media Gateways - A KEY RESOURCE FOR ACTLab'ers.
This section includes such sub-categories as Virtual Galleries, Virtual Radio Stations, How-to-do sections for various digital multi-media, access to binaries and reviews. The "Index to Multi-media services" is still the master list. This material mirrors and breaks down their work into categories.

Political, Governmental, and Activist Gateways
Only a small selection, but a start. Also, these include some interesting places to web out from.

Science Gateways
Just a brief sampling. Stressing astronomy and computer code for right now.

Spiritual Gateways
Ecumenical in spirit. The links are generally to one key sources that will provide access to others.

Subject Gateways
Includes some of the commercial services as well.

Web Information
More technical information about the Web itself, including how to set up html documents, the state of the Web, and so on.
