       1. Introduction

These release notes describe the features of the Silicon
Graphicsr 2.2 EFast product option for CHALLENGEm L,
CHALLENGE XL, Onyx line, IRISr Crimson, IRIS-4D Series, and
IRIS POWER Series servers and supercomputers. The EFast
option is a high-speed Ethernet subsystem that consists of
an Ethernet processor board (CMC-130) and a link level
driver. The board occupies one VMEbusm option slot. EFast
was formerly distributed under the name EtherXPress.

Note: Packaged with these release notes is a separate sheet

       1.3 Online_Release_Notes

After you install the online documentation for a product
(the relnotes subsystem), you can view the release notes on
       your screen.

If you have a graphics system, select ``Release Notes'' from
the Tools submenu of the Toolchest. This displays the
grelnotes(1) graphical browser for the on-line release
notes. Refer to the grelnotes(1) man page for information
       on options to this command.

If you have a nongraphics system, you can use the relnotes
command. Refer to the relnotes(1) man page for accessing
       the online release notes.

Note: You can read the online release notes for most
products before installing the software. Refer to

       2. Installation_Information

This chapter lists supplemental information to the IRIS
Software Installation Guide. The information listed here is
product-specific; use it with the installation guide to
       install this product.

       2.1 EFast_Subsystems

The EFast option includes these subsystems:

       efast.sw.fxp EFast software

       efast.man.relnotes EFast release notes

       2.2 EFast_Subsystem_Disk_Use

This section lists the subsystems (and their sizes) of the
       EFast option.

If you are installing this option for the first time, use
the install efast or step menu item from inst to select
the EFast subsystems for installation, then select the go
       menu item.

Note: The listed subsystem sizes are approximate. Refer to
the IRIS Software Installation Guide for information
              on finding exact sizes.

       Subsystem Name Subsystem Size
                                     (512-byte blocks)

       efast.sw.fxp 33
       efast.man.relnotes 10

       2.3 EFast_Network_Interface_Name

The name for the EFast network interface is fxp#, where the
final digit is determined by the configuration of a jumper
       on the board.

       2.4 Installation_Method

All of the subsystems for EFast can be installed using the
inst command from IRIX, as shown below. You do not need to
       use the miniroot.

       % inst
       Inst> from /CDROM/dist
       Inst> install efast

                                  - 2 -

       Inst> go

       3. Known_Problems_and_Workarounds

o The programmable read only memory (PROM) does not
recognize the EFast option. Therefore, EFast cannot be
used for PROM-level network downloading (that is, bootp
also called booting over the network). For IRIS-4D60,
70, and 80 series workstations, use the ENP-10 Ethernet
board for downloading if it is installed. For other
            systems, use the built-in Ethernet.
