InPerson is entirely software based. Just load the software and that's it - there's no expensive option board to install.

CPU Overhead

InPerson keeps CPU overhead low by using an efficient difference-based algorithm for video compression. This algorithm compares successive images in the video stream and sends only the areas of the image that have changed.

Network Friendly

InPerson can be used with existing network routers over many types of TCP/IP networks including Ethernet and FDDI. Through the use of third party option cards, you can also run InPerson over ATM.
When 2 or more people have been invited to a conference, InPerson uses IP multicasting for efficiency.
InPerson was designed to keep its impact on network traffic to a minimum. The amount of network bandwidth required by InPerson is affected by the number of participants in a conference and the participants' desired video frame rate and resolution. InPerson automatically uses a network congestion algorithm to ensure that the video data doesn't burden the network excessively.
In addition to the automatic adjustments that InPerson provides to minimize its impact on the network, the user has the flexibility of fine tuning InPerson directly.
