       1. Introduction

VideoLab is a video option for the IRIS-4D/GTX, IRIS-4D/VGX,
IRIS_4D/VGXT, and SkyWriter graphic workstations. VideoLab
enables you to view high-resolution images from the
workstation in low-resolution video formats, capture low-
resolution images in real time and view them on the high-
resolution workstation monitor, and blend this low-
resolution input with the workstation-derived imagery for
low-resolution output, in a range of component video
       formats.

Silicon Graphics, Inc., provides a comprehensive product
support and maintenance program for its products. If you
are in North America and your system is under warranty or
you have a maintenance contract with Silicon Graphics or

       2. Configuration_Information

Installing the VideoLab software creates the
       /usr/gfx/ucode/vof/vli and /usr/video/vli directories.

The vli.sw.demos image installs buttonfly menu files into
the /usr/demos directory, which are useful only if the
standard eoe2.sw.demos subsystem (which contains the
buttonfly executable) has already been installed.

To configure the demos to run in 525/60 Hz timing or 625/50
Hz timing, a system defaults button has been provided to
allow you to establish the default operation of the demos on
your system (you must be logged into the demos account to
have the proper write permissions on the setup file). The
demos will default to the 525/60 Hz mode as shipped.

The VideoLab breakout box provides several connectors which
are intended for future expansion; these include those in
the areas labelled LOOP and VTR CNTRL OUT (with the
exception of the sync loop through connectors), and the
composite video connectors labelled COMP and S-VIDEO in the
       areas labelled IN and OUT.

VideoLab does not provide an integral VideoMedia V-LAN
transmitter. Instead, we have provided several programs
that provide an interface to the RS-232 based VideoMedia V-
LAN transmitters. These programs comprise a portion of the
vlan232 image. In particular, the executable vlan232cmd and
the shell script vlan.demo are installed to
/usr/video/vlan232/bin. The vlan.demo script provides an
example of how to use a VideoMedia device control network
with the VideoLab to produce frame-by-frame animation.

       Certain demos require particular hardware configurations;
the demos test to see if the hardware capability is present
and if it is not, they exit with an error message detailing
the requirement. For example, the motion tracking demo spot
       requires an alpha bitplane option.

       4. Bug_Fixes

The VideoLab bugs listed in this chapter were corrected in
this release. The bug fix descriptions are followed by a
Silicon Graphics bug report number in the form (SCR #####).

o When running in D1 output mode, proper Betacam SP
signal levels are present on the analog outputs. (SCR
            112705)

o The VideoLab now supports 625-line D1 modes. (SCR
            114236)

o The VideoLab control panel no longer exits when unable
to load an image file for display. (SCR 122067)

o The VideoLab control panel can now be run remotely
            using DGL.  (SCR 123760)
