The GL Engine is a SBus board that accelerates IRIS GL applications on Sun SPARCstations(tm). GL Engines provide up to 100K shaded, Z-buffered polygons per second, in 24-bit true color. GL Engines run all standard Sun software, and can act as the standard Sun console for integrated single screen solutions. Any applications ported to Sun using 3Dlabs PX/IRIS GL library can be accelerated, without recompilation, by plugging in a GL Engine. GL Engines come in three speed grades, occupy two SBus slots, and are compatible with any SPARCstation.
