The printer driver is responsible for controlling the paging and the effects (eg underline, italic etc). EasiWord is unusual in that it uses the printer driver in text mode rather than graphic mode, to obtain a fast print. This means that even though other software (eg Draw, Paint, Impression etc) works correctly, EasiWord may fail due to printer driver configuration as the text section of the printer driver is configured separately from the graphics. If effects (italic, underline, bold, different size fonts) do not appear on printouts there are three possible causes: It is possible the printer simply does not support the missing effects - there is nothing we can do about this! It is possible the printer driver does not support these effects - in this case Acorn may be able to supply a better printer definition file or you may be able to create one using PrintEdit (see RISC OS User Guide). Finally, it is possible that the printer driver is not configured for effects - check that the Control Codes option of the printer configuration is set to Standard as described on page 65 of the RISC OS 3 User Guide. If paging is incorrect (eg page numbers appear at the top of a blank sheet or blank sheets appear between pages) you need to check the text settings in the Paper Size setup. These appear in the bottom section of the dialogue box and are described on page 73 of the RISC OS 3 User Guide. You should set the height to the overall height of your paper in lines (usually 70 for A4) and set the margins to indicate parts of the paper your printer cannot reach. There are usually a couple of lines at the top, and more at the bottom, that cannot be printed on. Once you have set this up add up the top and bottom margins and subtract this from the height. The result is the maximum page size you can use in EasiWord. Make sure you are changing the size of the right paper size definition in the printer driver by comparing its name with that shown in the printer configuration (see page 63 of RISC OS User Guide). After changing the printer driver configuration use the Save Choices option to make the changes permanent. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
