To decide if a particular printer is compatable with Ancestry you should discover whether or not it can execute the commands indicated below. Although many printers are billed as 'Epson Compatable' this term has a wide range of different interpretations depending on the manufacturer. To be certain, check that the printer can execute all the commands in at least one of the groups below: 1) Medium size, no download characters This mode uses a low res graphics dump which should be supported by most printers. The commands used are as follows: ESC @ (27,64) Reset printer ESC K (27,75) Standard density graphics ESC A (27,65) Line spacing 2) Small size, no download characters This mode uses a higher res graphics dump to fit more cards on each page. The commands used are as follows: ESC @ (27,64) Reset printer ESK L (27,76) Double density graphics ESC A (27,65) Line spacing 3) Download characters This mode redefines the printers character set to obtain the best quality and offer a range of sizes. The printer will need to have enough RAM to redefine the entire character set and will possibly need a switch setting altered to make this RAM available for character definitions. It will also need to support the following codes: ESC @ (27,64) Reset printer ESC 3 (27,51) Line spacing ESC ! (27,33) Character size ESC U (27,85) Unidirectional printing ESC 6 (27,54) Expand printable code area ESC I (27,73) Control code printable ESC : (27,58) Copy ROM characters to RAM ESC % (27,37) Select download RAM ESC & (27,38) Download character ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
