J. Michael James

J. Michael James graduated from college with a degree in art, but worked as an executive for a graphics hardware company for 20 years. For the last four years he has explored the ideas of virtual sculpture, building 3-D objects to be viewed through a computer screen or VR headmount. His pieces, such as Fractal Fish - featured in Wired 2.08 - are the first monuments of cyberspace, sculptures that challenge the boundaries of the plastic arts. Viewers can position themselves at any relation to the piece: each perspective offers another window on a fascinating creation. These works of art are 'on display' at his network of Pentium machines in Pleasanton, California.
