Using The Edinburgh Guide

Welcome to the WWW Official Guide to Edinburgh.

This guide is the WWW version of the City of Edinburgh District Council's publication, Edinburgh - The New Official Guide, published by Mainstream Publishing, ISBN 1 85158 605 9.

The Guide is heavily illustrated which means there are a lot of pictures contained within these pages. For clients connecting over a modem link or other slow link it is advisable to either turn off in-line image loading or, if your client supports the feature, to delay image loading.

Currently all images are held in GIF format to maintain a high quality of picture. GIF images tend to be larger than JPEG, for example, so be wary of expanding some of the in-line images if you are connected over a slow link. Some images are BIG! JPEG versions will be introduced at some stage in the future, though at the expense of some loss of quality.
