The Acorn A5000

The most popular of Acorn's machine is a general home and office oriented machine. The ARM 3 cached procesor runs at 33Mhz (25Mhz on earlier models) and can handle a massive 16 million instructions per second (MIPS). With separate computer, monitor and keyboard modules, the A5000 is similar in design to the A4000.

Unlike the A4000 the A5000 can be expanded to eight Megabytes of RAM (this is not true of the early A5000's). It came complete with an AKF52 monitor (older machines had an AKF18 and the AKF52 could be upgraded for a little extra cost to the AKF50). It also included up to a 160 Megabyte Hard Disk Drive. The A5000 has four standard podule expansion slots to enable connection to SCSI devices, scanners, digitisers etc.

Production of the A5000 ceased at the end of 1993.
