April 18 1995:

Aleph One ships faster Risc PC 486 Cards

Aleph One Ltd is now shipping its own variants of the PC coprocessor card it helped to design for Acorn and its Risc PC range of computers. The cards feature powerful Cyrix 486DX2/66 or DX40 processors and the company's benchmarks suggest that they offer up to three times the performance of Acorn's card.

Alex van Someren, technical director at Aleph One, comments: "We are pleased to be able to offer Acorn's customers a choice of PC products and believe that the Aleph One card is a significant option for power users who need real PC performance." Limited quantities of the cards are available now direct from Aleph One Ltd. The cards cost 399 pounds ex VAT for the DX2/66 and 349 pounds ex VAT for the DX40.

Background

The first Risc PC 486 Card was developed by Aleph One and specialist ASIC design company Future Technology Devices International in conjunction with Acorn. The card co-exists with an ARM610,700 or 710 RISC processor card and fits into Acorn's Open Bus enabling the PC software to run at real PC speeds.

Aleph One Limited is a leading developer of peripherals for Acorn 32-bit RISC computers. Its range of PC card products allow software for IBM-compatible PCs to co-exist with RISC OS, affording users the best of both the RISC OS and DOS/Windows environments in a single computer. Aleph One has a policy of continuous development which has led to increases in performance and reductions in price of its PC card products every year since their introduction in 1992.
