The NIH has recently restated its continuing intent to emphasize the use of
administrative supplements to attract underrepresented minorities into
biomedical and behavioral research. These awards are designed to provide
support for research experiences at grantee institutions for minorities
throughout the continuum from high school to the faculty level. All
Principal Investigators holding NIH research grants are eligible for
administrative supplements to existing grants for the support and
recruitment of underrepresented minority investigators and students.
Please contract your program officer if you have an attractive candidate!
The March 21 issue of "Rolling Stone" has a special section highlights
colleges that are said to offer the best education for the price and
suggests five professional fields, including medicine and technology, in
which new graduates might have the best job prospects. The 15 best-buy
colleges were selected from every region of the United States and are a
mixture of public and private, large and small, technical and liberal-arts
institutions. They include the Georgia Institute of Technology, Grinnell
College, and the University of Texas at Austin. The section also includes
descriptions of wacky internships, such as driving the Oscar Mayer
"Wienermobile," a hot-dog-shaped car. A "Yearbook '96" feature contains
photographs and blurbs from the college yearbooks of six current and former
Presidential candidates.
