The ISC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to software engineering for
the Internet. Reference implementations of Internet standards often have
the weight of ``de-facto standards,'' and to that end, we want to ensure
that those reference implementations are properly supported.
While much of the Internet's software has been written and maintained by
volunteers, and while we applaud all instances of such voluntarism, we
recognize that individual contributors have hard limits on how much of
their time they can donate.
The ISC administers grants of money and equipment to qualified software
developers who then create and/or maintain freely available software used
on most of the Internet. Our funding agencies are corporations and other
parties who believe that freely available Internet software is a good cause.
Projects:
- BIND
- the Berkeley Internet Name Domain, an implementation of DNS.
- ISC dhcpd
- the ISC DHCP Server, an implementation of the server portion
of the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol.
