InterEngineering MSE in Technical Japanese

The InterEngineering MSE in Technical Japanese Program (IMTJ) was established by the College of Engineering at the University of Washington. The program has been under the direction of Professor Michio Tsutsui since it began in 1989. IMTJ is a unique master's degree program. It is the only graduate program that combines graduate work in an engineering or science field with advanced instruction in the Japanese language specific to that field.

Students in IMTJ pursue a graduate degree in their chosen field of engineering or science while taking course work in technical Japanese. This course work equips them with the skills necessary to read technical literature in Japanese and to work and commmunicate effectively with Japanese engineers and scientists in research or business environments. The IMTJ takes two years to complete and includes a summer internship in Japan in an industrial or research setting appropriate to the student's field of study.

The topics below give more detailed information about the program.
