Higher Education Microwave Services

Welcome to the Higher Education Microwave Services (HEMS) Home Page. HEMS is a two-way audio and video television network linking Ohio University's main campus in Athens with its five regional campuses. OU-Lancaster, OU-Eastern, OU-Zanesville, OU-Chillicothe and OU-Southern each have a facility configured for use as a HEMS classroom. On the Athens campus there are currently two HEMS classrooms available.

The system is designed so that any campus can be linked to any other campus. For example, Chillicothe and Zanesville could be having a class or workshop, while at the same time Lancaster, Athens and Ironton could be linked together for an entirely different activity.

Each quarter a variety of courses are carried on the HEMS system. Subject areas regularly include business, nursing, education, communication and others. Support is provided for faculty in developing their courses for television.

In addition, a number of workshops and meetings are carried via the HEMS system. Valuable resources can be shared among campuses and travel time reduced.

Information about HEMS on this server includes our Winter Quarter '96 Class Schedule, and a listing of Regional Campus Coordinators who are responsible for the system at each location.

Further information regarding the HEMS system can be obtained by contacting Bob Hails, HEMS Coordinator, or by calling (614) 593-0241.
