Welcome to the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. For more than 140 years, SEAS has educated exceptional students for a wide variety of careers. The School has approximately 1500 undergraduate students and 600 graduate students. Its 106 faculty are organized into departments of Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer and Information Science, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics, and Systems Engineering.

SEAS strives to attract the finest undergraduate, graduate, and professional students and prepare them for leadership roles in engineering and applied science as well as in other fields, such as medicine, business, and law, for which creativity, rigorous critical thinking, and a strong commitment to humane values are essential.

Research is a major aspect of the creative mission of SEAS faculty and students. The School aims to foster research that is at the forefront in areas of contemporary intellectual vitality and is a magnet for the best students.

SEAS is also known for its innovative collaborations in education and research with the other schools at Penn. Examples include the Management and Technology undergraduate program (SEAS/Wharton), the newly formed Institute for Medicine and Engineering (SEAS/Medicine), the Institute for Research in Cognitive Science (SEAS/Arts and Sciences) and the Laboratory for Research on the Structure of Matter (SEAS/Arts and Sciences).

SEAS is a superb school in the heart of a great university. If you wish to learn more about us, please send me a note (farringt@eniac.seas.upenn.edu).
