Product Categories

The SMTI Participants' products described in this guide are grouped in six categories as listed below. The first four categories include systems management products of various kinds, and the final two categories reflect how the products are most likely to be used, and who in your organization is most likely to use them.

Administrative products help an administrator perform proactive operations on databases and networks.

Analysis products help reduce the cost, and improve the performance, resource utilization, and operation of an object.

Monitoring and diagnostic products generally run continuously, looking at the state of an object and reacting to unusual or threatening abnormalities.

Operations products automate regular, everyday administration tasks.

Interoperability components enable communication between heterogeneous systems and networks.

Management platforms are system frameworks that provide a foundation for distributed management applications.
