Microsoft is proud to announce Microsoft Excel Viewer for Windows 95, a tool that enables Microsoft Excel users to share their spreadsheet files with more people than ever before! Microsoft Excel Viewer is a small, no-charge, freely distributable program that lets people view and print Microsoft Excel for Windows (version 2.0 and greater) and Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh® (versions 2.2a and greater) spreadsheet files. Microsoft Excel Viewer gives users the flexibility to view page layout, copy, zoom, AutoFilter, and control cell sizes. The Microsoft Excel Viewer supports OLE DocObject as well as the ability to view any Microsoft Excel or Lotus® 1-2-3 file.
Today, the Internet and other on-line services do a good job of dealing with text data as well as graphic images. However, tabular data (i.e. columnar lists, graphical charts, or financial reports) are not handled well. As more and more people begin creating and distributing spreadsheets over the Internet and internal corporate Webs, Microsoft has created a tool that is designed to make it easier than ever to view Microsoft Excel spreadsheet files. Now, content providers can easily distribute tabular information in Microsoft Excel format (.xls).
Microsoft Excel Viewer for Windows 95 is built to automatically configure itself as a Helper Application for Netscape and Microsoft Internet Explorer (it can also be manually configured as Helper Application for other browsing tools). This allows users to automatically view Microsoft Excel spreadsheets (.xls) that are linked to HTML pages on a LAN or the World Wide Web.
This product is "freeware". Users are encouraged to
copy and distribute Microsoft Excel Viewer to friends and co-workers,
or post it onto public electronic bulletin boards, LANs, and Internet
sites.
