Hello, my name is Tim Christian. I am the Dean of the Faculty of Law, here at the University of Alberta in Edmonton.

The University of Alberta Faculty of Law will be celebrating its 75th Anniversary next year. We now have some 4,000 alumni world wide. Our graduates have gone on to hold important judicial offices. Three served on the Supreme Court of Canada and virtually all of the judges of the Court of Appeal and Court of Queen's Bench and Provincial Court of Alberta are our graduates. Others have gone on to serve the public as elected officials and cabinet ministers. Still others have become successful business people. Of course, many of the leaders of the Bar are our graduates.

In the past we primarily served the province of Alberta. Now we have a national student body. Last year 1/3 of our first year students came from out-of-province and about 1/3 of our graduates went on to article outside of Alberta.

Now, with modern telecommunications, we are expanding to meet the needs of a global community. We believe the Internet is an essential communictions tool for everyone and we are using this medium to serve our own students, prospective students and members of the international legal community.

Whether you are an on-site student or on an internet surfer, watch this site over the next few months as we put more of our courses and research centres on-line.

The mission of the Faculty of Law is to provide service to our now global community, to educate prospective lawyers and individuals seeking a thorough understanding of the law and the legal system, in an environment based on equality, support, respect, and recognition for the unique and diverse contribution of all its members.

Please, feel free to browse and stay as long as you want. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Thank you.
