Rekha Rao's Coconut a Day '95
The genre of contemporary Indian Art has come out of its long neglect. Indian art is making its presence felt in the international arena. With the landmark first time sale of contemporary Indian paintings (219 of them), which took place at the Sotheby's in New York, last September, fetching around $1.2 million, Indian artists are finally having their day under the sun.

Art lovers' in Europe too, got a flavour of Indian Art when Christie's first exclusive sale of 88 specially commissioned paintings went under the hammer, last October, closely followed by a Sotheby's auction of 77 works. Interest in Indian Art has only been growing ever since.

In its endeavour of bringing the world closer to the Indian way of life - the culture, the society, the happenings and what have you, IndiaWorld presents the IndiaWorld Art Gallery as one big step in that direction. We hope you feel as much excited seeing this as we feel bringing it to you.
