No-holds-barred battle in Maharashtra
The fight for 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra in the forthcoming general
elections is likely to be a cut-throat one. This was evident in the
aggressiveness with which the two main political rivals in the stateÐthe
ruling Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance and the Congress I fought the
recent biennial election to seven seats of the Rajya Sabha.
Foreign banks -- much ground to tread
Foreign banks have always been marginal players in India. Though they have been high on visibility (thanks to their high-voltage publicity), their share of
the Indian banking cake is nothing to write home about.
Sustained recovery on the cards
A sizzling stocks rally has sent the doomsayers for cover. In a complete
turnaround to year-long depressed conditions, and to the utter surprise of
market pundits, the bourses exploded into frenetic activity in February. And,
the good news is that the gains are likely to remain intact.
Scramble to woo the MBAs
Wages and salaries have become superannuated words, relics of the past.
Today, the magic word is compensation. Thanks to the now overused buzzwords of
liberalisation and globalisation, there has been a mad scramble for taking on
board MBAs and management graduates through increased compensation. Indian
companies have also jumped on to the bandwagon, offering attractive, and
innovative wage packets.
