Fujitsu's ICL Losses, New European PC Company
Fujitsu and ICL, its UK
computing operation, have announced the creation of Fujitsu Personal
Systems Business Group, a European company that will handle both
companies' PC sales operations in Europe. Meanwhile, Fujitsu has
lowered its income forecast by 28% after ICL posted losses of
US$297 million loss and said it was reorganizing.
India - Samsung Promises $630M Investment, SW Center
Korean electronics giant
Samsung Electronics Co., plans to invest $630 million in India
over the next three years. Of this amount, $185 million will be
in IT-related areas.
Infonautics Goes Public
A developer of
online information resources, Infonautics announced the filing of
a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange
Commission (SEC) proposing an initial public offering (IPO)
of 2,250,000 Class A Common Stock. The company's services and
products center on the Electric Library and Homework Helper.
Lexmark Opens China Channels
Printer maker Lexmark is
due to open a new office in Beijing and has appointed four more
distributors in China.
Singapore's Acma Grips Hayes
The Singapore electronics
company Acma will be taking over modem giant Hayes. After months
of acrimonious legal action, a US bankruptcy court ruled
in favor of the Acma/Northern Telecom reorganization plan this
week, as reported in Newsbytes on March 12, and threw out
Diamond Multimedia's efforts to acquire 100% of Hayes with a
US$140 million bid.
Singapore's Simex To Launch Auto Trading
Today, March 15, is the date the
Singapore International Monetary Exchange (SIMEX) has announced for the
launch of its Automated Trading System. Only to be operational after the
official exchange trading hours, the electronic system matches orders.
