The Venue

Where better than the birthplace of Shakespeare to hold a meeting on communication! William Shakespeare was born and brought up in this market town right in the heart of England. There is much to experience in Stratford-upon-Avon that will help to make this a truly memorable meeting.

This satellite meeting of the International Congress of Clinical Chemistry takes place just prior to this major world event in the Clinical Chemistry calendar.

The Programme

This is not a meeting for computer fanatics. Rather, it is a coming together of healthcare professionals and those with a detailed insight into the potential applications of the Information Superhighway for laboratory medicine.

Certainly by 1996 laboratories throughout the world should be able to access international computer networks. Just how useful this will be to the practice of Clinical Chemistry and ultimately the care of patients is far from established. The meeting will explore the opportunities of this technology.

The meeting programme will contain four major symposia over a two day period. The symposia topics are:

The initial symposium sets the scene both in what is currently possible and what is coming soon. The meeting will then look in greater detail at just what all this can mean for both analytical and professional activity and this will extend to clinical, commercial and industrial environments. Issues of standardisation, ethical and legal problems and the need to change working practices will be considered.

Speakers include those from laboratory and clinical medicine, industry and commerce.

Demonstrations and Posters

Desktop demonstrations and poster presentations will be an integral part of the meeting. Allowing time for discussion is a key aim of the conference organisers. An abstract form will be included in the final programme for the meeting.

Social Programme

Falcon Hotel

There will be a chance to visit the theatre. The conference hotel is the Falcon Hotel, which itself is steeped in history and is situated right in the middle of the town, just a short walk from Shakespeare's Birthplace. The Shakespeare Memorial Theatre and the River Avon are all close to the hotel.

Accompanying guests will be able to take time to see Shakespearean properties such as Anne Hathaway's cottage and many other historic sites. Transport will be available to get delegates to London and the XVI ICCC.
