Clinical Research

A vital part of the HCOG program is to advance the understanding and treatment of cancer by offering the following services important to medical oncologists and oncology nurses.

Multi-institional Protocols

Drawing upon the expertise of internationally renowned cancer researchers in the Harvard medical community, HCOG has initiated several disease-specific subcommittees. These groups design clinical protocols for a broad variety of cancers, for example, lymphoma, lung, skin, breast and brain cancer as well as cancer prevention and detection. In many cases, the multi-institutional protocols initiated by HCOG have helped eliminate duplication of effort among the member institutions.

Protocol Submission and Review

In an effort to foster collaboration between institutions, HCOG works with the Institutional Review Boards to simplify the protocol submission and review process, assisting oncology researchers with these administrative tasks.

Dissemination of Clinical Information

It is important for clinical investigators to be aware of the various clinical trials open for accrual within the member institutions. To address that situation, HCOG publishes regular reports that provide protocol treatment schemas and eligibility criteria.

Securing Funds

The efforts of HCOG have garnered the financial support of the National Institutes of Health, private foundations, corporations and individuals. In the current climate of reduced federal funding, the collaborative program of HCOG can be an effective approach to securing funds for cancer research and education.
