Her role as Dustin Hoffman's troubled wife in Kramer vs. Kramer garnered her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and in 1982, she won the Best Actress Oscar for the title role in Sophie's Choice. After graduating from Vassar, Streep attended the renowned Yale Drama School, appearing in six of the seven plays presented annually by the Yale Repertory Company and earning a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1975. She then moved to New York where she landed the ingenue lead in Joseph Papp's Lincoln Center production of Trelawney of the Wells, delivering a powerful, critically acclaimed performance.
