Elisabeth Shue as "Sera" in LEAVING LAS VEGAS (MGM/UA) Elisabeth Shue delivers a stunning performance as a streetwise Las Vegas prostitute, whose hard edge is softened by a genuine vulnerability hiding just beneath the surface in her role as Sera in LEAVING LAS VEGAS. So convincing is her portrayal that it is difficult to imagine that this is the same actress who has been the quintessential girl-next-door in such films as Soapdish, Cocktail, Adventures in Babysitting and The Karate Kid. Shue began her career in commercials while a student at Wellesley College; however, she put her studies on hold when she landed a regular role on the critically acclaimed television series Call to Glory. Shue then won the coveted lead opposite Ralph Macchio in The Karate Kid. Though her career had taken off, she refused to forego a college education altogether, and earned admission to Harvard University where she continued to work towards the completion of her degree between film projects. During this time she completed several pictures. Two years ago Shue enjoyed a smashing Broadway debut in Some Americans Abroad at the Lincoln Center. She most recently completed filming the feature Trigger Effect starring opposite Kyle MacLachlan and Dermot Mulroney. |
