Ed Harris, who portrays "Gene Kranz" in APOLLO 13, has played numerous understated roles for film and stage, revealing a commanding and powerful presence. His films include China Moon, Needful Things, The Firm, Glengarry Glen Ross, State of Grace, The Abyss, Sweet Dreams, and The Right Stuff.

Harris' television credits include HBO's The Last Innocent Man and Running Mates and Showtimes's Paris Trout. This summer, Harris and his wife, actress Amy Madigan will co-produce and co-star in a new film adaptation of Zane Grey's Riders of the Purple Sage for TNT.

Born in Tenafly, New Jersey, Harris attended Columbia University for two years and then attended the University of Oklahoma, where he began to study acting. In 1973, Harris moved to California and entered the California Institute of The Arts. While there, he appeared in 15 productions before graduating with a degree in Fine Arts in 1975.

Immediately following his work in APOLLO 13, Harris appeared in the New York Shakespeare Theater's off-Broadway production of Sam Shepard's Simpatico. He won the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Performance by an Actor for the performance.
