It may not be the biggest party in town this month, but the Nominees Luncheon is certainly one of the best. That's because the invitation list only permits about one hundred of this year's Oscar Nominees to gather at the Beverly Hilton, to savor the cuisine, mingle to their heart's content, and for at least a short time, pleasure in the nomination without an eye towards the competition.

The luncheon offered an opportunity for stars to meet their peers, and let them know how much they respect each other's work. A record number of nominees were in attendance from every craft - from Joan Allen, nominated in the Supporting Actress category to art director Eugenio Zanetti - listened intently as Oscarcast producers coached them about acceptance speeches. "Now come on." David Salzman admonished, "At most you are one of five nominees. Forget the Vegas odds makers because this year anyone can win. You have at least a 20% chance of getting an Oscar. So be prepared. Jot down some ideas of what you'd like to say to a billion people, given the opportunity. If you're not a writer, talk to one. Maybe hire one. (Just don't use ours)."

Quincy Jones adds, "Be creative in your gratitude. Be wonderful."

In fact, there were so many luminaries that it was impossible to keep track of them all until they gathered together for their group photograph. It was only then you realized what a one-in-a-million event the Nominees Luncheon really is. After the photograph, every nominee was called up to accept their certificates of nomination.

All in all not the biggest party, but just the right size for Hollywood's Hottest talent.
